Tanya: Apa benar iman kita itu bisa bertambah dan berkurang alias naik-turun? Bagaimana bisa? Bagaimana biar iman kita stabil dan bertambah terus? Terima kasih.

JAWAB: Ya benar. Rasulullah Saw bersabda:

الإِيْمِانُ قَوْل وَ عَمَلٌ يَزِيْدُ وَ يَنْقُصُ

 "Iman itu ucapan dan perbuatan, bertambah dan berkurang" (HR Abu Nu'aim).

Iman adalah percaya atau yakin bahwa Allah SWT satu-satunya Tuhan yang berkah disembah, dengan bukti menjalankan perintah-Nya dan menjauhi larangan-Nya, sebagaimana tertuang dalam Syariat Islam.

Ibnu Taimiyah berkata, “Telah diketahui bahwa iman adalah iqrâr (pengakuan), tidak semata-mata tashdîq (membenarkan). Dan iqrâr (pengakuan) itu mencakup perkataan hati, yaitu tashdîq (membenarkan), dan perbuatan hati, yaitu inqiyâd (ketundukan hati)”.

Salah satu ciri orang beriman adalah bertambah imannya ketika mendengarkan atau dibacakan ayat-ayat Allah SWT (QS. 8:2).

Iman seseorang berkurang, bahkan hilang, ketika ia berbuat maksiat (HR Bukhari dan Muslim).

Dalil yang menjelaskan naik-turun atau tambah-kurangnya iman antara lain:

“Dialah yang telah menurunkan ketenangan ke dalam hati orang-orang mu’min supaya keimanan mereka bertambah di samping keimanan mereka (yang telah ada)” (QS. Al-Fath/48: 4) .

“Dan jika dibacakan kepada mereka ayat-ayat-Nya, bertambahalah iman mereka (karenanya)” (QS. Al-Anfāl/8: 2).

“Dan bila diturunkan suatu surat, maka di antara mereka (orang-orang munafik) ada yang berkata: “Siapa di antara kalian yang bertambah imannya dengan (turunnya) surat ini?” Adapun orang yang beriman, maka surat ini menambah imannya, sedang mereka merasa gembira.” (QS. At-Tawbah/9:124) .

Ayat di atas jeas menyebutkan bertambahnya uman. Meski tidak secara eksplisit menyebutkan berkurangnya iman, namun dengan ditetapkan kata “betambah” berarti mencakup pula kata “berkurang”.

Agar iman stabil, bahkan terus bertambah, maka laksanakan segala perintah-Nya dan jauhi larangan-Nya, sering dzikir dan baca Quran, menghadiri majelis ilmu (pengajian), dan bergaullah dengan orang-orang shaleh dan lingkungan Islami (religius).
