Siapa yang tak mengenal dengan Matahari Mall, apakah kamu sudah mengetahuinya tentang owner department store yang satu ini ? Pemilik dari matahari mall adalah Bapak Hari Darmawan. Beliau sudah menggeluti usaha ini di daerah jakarta sejak tahun 1973 di daerah Pasar Baru, Jakarta. Beliau lahir di Makassar pada tanggal 27 Mei 1940. Beliau sudah dikenal sebagai raja Ritel yang mengembangkan Ritel terbesar Matahari di Indonesia. Sejarah berdirinya ritel Matahari ini hingga besar seperti sekarang sangatlah panjang. Berawal dari sebuah toko kecil yang menjual baju bernama Mickey Mouse pada 24 Oktober 1958.

Hari Darmawan Matahari tidak pernah kering energinya. Hal ini   pula yang membuatnya sukses disamping kecerdasan, kerja keras dan merintis usaha dari skala kecil.

Dalam usianya yang sudah senja, beliau yang menerapkan konsep “tumbuh dari bawah” masih mampu berkarya. Salah satunya adalah mendirikan ritel yang sangat unik, “Value Dollar” dan “Rumah Matahari”. Value Dollar merupakan usaha yang menjual seluruh barangnya dengan satu harga yaitu lima ribu Rupiah per unit. Sementara Rumah Matahri mempunyai konsep yang kuat dan harga yang juga murah. Selain itu, Hari Darmawan juga mendirikan Ritel Bussines Institute of Indonesia yang bergerak di bidang pendidikan.
