Pengertian Shawalat (Sholawat)
Secara bahasa shalawat adalah bentuk jamak dari kata shalla atau shalat yang berarti doa, keberkahan, kemuliaan, kesejahteraan, dan ibadah.

Secara istilah shalawat adalah doa untuk Rasulullah Saw sebagai bukti rasa cinta dan hormat kita kepadanya.

Ucapan sholawat terpopuler adalah Alloohumma sholli ‘ala Muhammad wa’ala aali Muhammad --artinya: semoga Allah melimpahkan rahmat dan kesejahteraan kepada Nabi Muhammad dan keluarganya.
 
Shalawat terhadap Nabi Muhammad Saw memiliki kedudukan yang tinggi di dalam hati setiap muslim. Menyapa Nabi Saw dengan shalawat bahkan juga dilakukan Allah SWT dan para malaikat-Nya.

“Sesungguhnya Allah dan para Malaikat-Nya bershalawat untuk Nabi. Wahai orang-orang yang beriman, bershalawatlah kalian untuk Nabi dan ucapkanlah dengan penuh penghormatan.” (QS. Al-Ahzab:56).

Dalam Tafsir Ibnu Katsir disebutkan, maksud ayat tersebut, Allah SWT mengabarkan kepada para hamba-Nya tentang kedudukan hamba dan Nabi-Nya di sisi-Nya dan di sisi para makhluk yang tinggi (malaikat).

Allah memuji Nabi Muhammad Saw di hadapan para malaikat dan para malaikat pun bershalawat kepadanya. Lalu Allah memerintahkan penduduk bumi untuk bershalawat dan mengucapkan salam kepada Nabi Saw supaya terkumpul pujian terhadap beliau dari peghuni dua alam, alam atas (langit) dan alam bawah (bumi) secara bersama-sama.

 

Keutamaan dan Tujuan Shalawat

Banyak sekali hadits yang menjelaskan tentang keutamaan bershalawat kepada Nabi Saw, di antaranya sama-sama mendapatkan keselamatan seperti Nabi Saw dan mendapatkan Syafaat (pertolongan) pada Hari Kiamat.

”Siapa saja yang bershalawat kepadaku satu shalawat, maka Allah akan bershalawat kepadanya sepuluh” (HR. Muslim).

”Siapa saja yang bershalawat kepadaku satu shalawat, Allah akan bershalawat kepadanya sepuluh shalawat dan dihilangkan darinya sepuluh kesalahan dan dinaikkan untuknya sepuluh serajat.” (HR. An-Nasai).

”Sesungguhnya Allah memiliki malaikat-malaikat yang berkeliling di muka bumi, untuk menyampaikan kepadaku salam dari umatku.” (HR. Nasai).

Dari Abu Darda r.a., Rasulullah Saw bersabda: ”Siapa saja yang bershalawat kepadaku 10 kali waktu pagi dan sore, maka dia akan mendapatkan syafa’atku pada Hari Kiamat.” (Hadis Hasan, Shahih Al-Jami’ Al-Albani).

“Terhinalah seseorang yang namaku disebut di sisinya, tetapi dia tidak bershalawat kepadaku.” (HR. Tirmidzi).

“Orang yang bakhil (kikir/pelit) adalah orang yang apabila namaku disebut di sisinya, dia tidak bershalawat kepadaku” (HR. Tirmidzi).
