Putra Mahkota Arab Saudi Mohammed bin Salman mengatakan, Islam adalah agama bijak dan orang-orang berusaha membajak agama ini demi kepentingannya. Dia juga optimistis bahwa Arab Saudi akan menjadi “the next” Eropa (Eropa berikutnya).
Komentar calon raja Arab Saudi ini disampaikan dalam sebuah wawancara dengan The Washington Post saat lawatan ke Amerika Serikat.
”Saya percaya Islam (agama) bijaksana, Islam itu sederhana, dan orang-orang berusaha membajaknya,” kata Pangeran Mohammed.
“Diskusi panjang dengan ulama, positif. Itu mengapa kami memiliki lebih banyak sekutu dalam lembaga keagamaan, hari demi hari,” ujar putra Raja Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud ini, yang dilansir Minggu (25/3/2018).
Pangeran Mohammed yang juga menjabat sebagai Wakil Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan Saudi ini juga membicarakan upaya reformasi di negaranya. Salah satunya soal pemulihan hak-hak kaum perempuan termasuk hak mengemudikan kendaraan di tempat umum.
Dalam menjalankan agenda reformasi itu, dia mengaku bekerja keras untuk meyakinkan kaum konservatif bahwa pembatasan-pembatasan di Saudi terutama bagi kaum perempuan bukanlah bagian dari agama Islam.
Pangeran Mohammed juga menekankan bahwa Kerajaan Arab Saudi akan mengumumkan kepada dunia apa yang dilakukannya saat ini untuk memerangi ekstremisme.
Dia mengakui adanya penetrasi ekstremisme di sekolah-sekolah dan lembaga pendidikan lain di masa lalu. Saat ini pihaknya berjuang untuk mendepak ideologi ekstremis menjauh dari sistem pendidikan di Saudi.
Selama lawatan resmi ke AS, Pangeran Mohammed telah bertemu dengan Presiden Donald Trump serta para pejabat Kongres dan pertahanan Amerika.
Dalam wawancara dengan media Amerika tersebut, Pangeran Mohammed membanggakan prospek pertumbuhan ekonomi di Timur Tengah. Dia optimistis bahwa Arab Saudi bisa menjadi “the next” Eropa jika serangkaian masalah dapat diselesaikan.
”Arab Saudi memiliki lima persen dari cadangan uranium dunia, dan tidak menggunakan uranium ketika kami berhenti menggunakan minyak,” paparnya.
Terkait perang di Yaman, dia menekankan bahwa Kerajaan Arab Saudi telah menyelamatkan upaya untuk memperbaiki situasi kemanusiaan.
