Kematian bagi sebagian orang bisa saja sangat menakutkan. Namun siap atau tidak, suka atau tidak, yang namanya kematian pasti akan datang menjemput setiap makhluk yang bernyawa. Sebagaimana di dalam potongan ayat 185 surat Ali Imran, Allah berfirman,
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ
“Tiap-tiap jiwa (yang bernyawa) pasti akan merasakan mati …” (QS. Ali Imran : 185)
Dalam menyikapi kematian, Rasulullah Shallahu ‘alaihi wassalam menjelaskan dalam sebuah hadits yang diriwayatkan oleh Bukhari dan Muslim, bahwasannya yang mengikuti mayat itu ada tiga, yang dua kembali dan yang satu tetap bersamanya.
Dua yang kembali, yang pertama adalah keluarga. Ketika orang meninggal dunia, maka keluarga, saudara, tetangga, teman dan sahabat akan mengantar kepergiannya sampai di pemakaman.
Namun setelah jenazah dimasukkan ke liang lahat, semua orang akan kembali ke rumahnya masing-masing. Tak ada satupun yang akan mengikutinya hingga ke dalam kubur.
Betapa pun seorang suami mencintai istrinya, namun ketika istrinya meninggal, maka suami tidak akan menemaninya dalam kubur.
Dan di dalam kubur, setiap manusia akan sibuk dengan urusannya masing-masing. Sekalipun misalnya jenazah dimakamkan di areal pemakaman keluarga.
Maka jenazah satu dan yang lainnya tidak akan saling menyapa, dan mereka sibuk dengan urusannya masing-masing.
Dua yang kembali, yang kedua adalah harta. Ketika seseorang meninggal, maka ia akan meninggalkan seluruh hartanya. Rumah, mobil, perhiasan, tabungan dan lain-lain tidak akan ada yang menemaninya di liang lahat.
Satu-satunya harta yang ia bawa hanyalah beberapa lembar kain putih dengan panjang 2-3 meter. Sekalipun si mayit semasa hidupnya mungkin juragan kain, atau bahkan pemilik pabrik tekstil.
Namun ketika seorang muslim meninggal, maka ia hanya akan membawa 3 lembar kain putih untuk laki-laki, dan 5 lembar untuk perempuan.
Semua harta dan kekayaan yang kita miliki sesungguhnya bukanlah milik kita. Setelah seseorang meninggal, maka rumah, mobil, dan segala hartanya akan menjadi hak ahli waris.
Dan harta yang benar-benar ia miliki adalah harta yang telah ia sedekahkan selama masih hidup.
Zakat, infaq, shadaqah, harta yang kita keluarkan untuk membantu sesama, harta untuk berjuang di jalan Allah dan lain sebagainya, maka itulah sesungguhnya harta milik kita.
Dan apa yang telah kita sedekahkan, insya Allah akan memudahkan perjalanan kita di alam kubur kelak. Sebagaimana sabda Rasulullah Shallahu ‘alaihi wassalam,
“Sesungguhnya sedekah dapat memadamkan panasnya kubur bagi orang yang memberikan sedekah, dan sesungguhnya orang mukmin akan bernaung pada hari kiamat nanti di bawah naungan sedekahnya,” (HR. Tabrani).
Satu hal yang terakhir adalah satu tetap bersama mayat, yaitu amal. Ketika seseorang meninggal dunia dan dimakamkan, maka amal perbuatan dan ibadahnyalah yang akan bersamanya, menemani kehidupannya di alam barzakh.
Amal baik maupun amal buruk yang pernah dia kerjakan semasa hidup, itulah yang akan menemaninya di dalam kubur.
Jamaah yang dimuliakan Allah, berbicara kematian kaitannya dengan amal, maka sesungguhnya keadaan manusia di alam kubur itu ada dua.
Keadaan pertama adalah bagi orang yang banyak melakukan amal shalih, maka kuburnya akan dilapangkan sejauh mata memandang, kemudian datang kepadanya seseorang yang berwajah tampan dengan baju yang bagus dan aroma yang harum.
Orang itu berkata, ‘Berbahagialah dengan kemudahan yang diberikan padamu. Inilah hari yang dijanjikan padamu.’
Mayit itu bertanya, ‘Siapa kamu? Wajahmu tampak bagus.’
Dijawab, ‘Aku adalah amal shalihmu. Engkau selalu bersegera mentaati Allah dan enggan bermaksiat kepada-Nya. Maka Allah mengganjarmu dengan kebaikan.’
Sementara itu, bagi orang yang semasa hidupnya bergelimangan amal buruk, maka kuburnya akan menyempit hingga meremukkan tulang-tulangnya.
Pintu neraka dibuka sehingga dia akan merasakan panas yang luar biasa. Lalu datanglah seseorang dengan wajah dan pakaian yang buruk, serta aroma tubuh yang busuk menyengat.
Ia berkata, ‘Berbahagialah dengan kejelekanmu. Inilah hari yang dijanjikan. Engkau enggan taat kepada Allah, tetapi sangat bersemangat dalam bermaksiat. Maka Allah mengganjarmu dengan kejelekan.’
Mayit itu bertanya, ‘Siapa kamu? Wajahmu amat buruk,’
Tamu itu menjawab, ‘Akulah amalmu yang buruk.’
