 Gubernur Jawa Barat Ahmad Heryawan memuji penguasaan dan pemahaman ilmu agama Ustad Abdul Somad. “Beliau tidak membawa pemahaman dari kelompok ormas (Islam) tertentu, beliau berdiri di atas segala golongan. Dari sisi pemahaman madzhab dan fikih juga sangat bagus, sehingga setiap orang dari ormas mana pun dari kelompok, katakanlah Muhammadiyah, NU, PUI, Persis, Al-Irsyad, dan lain-lain itu nyaman,” kata dia di Bandung, Jumat, 30 Maret 2018.
Aher, sapaan Ahmad Heryawan, mengatakan alasan semua kelompok bisa menerima Ustad Somad itu justru saat menyatakan perbedaan pemahaman agama yang ada di antara masing-masing ormas Islam tersebut. “Ketika dia menyebut perbedaan pendapat, dia utuh menyebutnya. Dia persilakan publik untuk memilih salah satu yang muncul dari perbedaan tersebut. Karena perbedaan tersebut ada sandaran dalilnya, yang disebut perbedaan pendapat di antara ulama, itu maksudnya,” kata dia.
Menurut Aher, pembawaan ceramah dan kajian Ustad Abdul Somad juga menarik. “Ustad yang menguasai bidang keilmuannya. Dan Allah memberikan kemampuan untuk mengemukakan berbagai pengetahuan yang dia miliki pada publik secara langsung sehingga nyaman untuk didengar. Pidato dan ceramahnya mencerahkan,” kata dia.
Aher mengatakan ciri khas Ustad Abdul Somad justru pada ceramahnya yang menyatukan umat. “Salah satu yang jadi ciri khasnya itu ceramahnya menyatukan umat, menyatukan bangsa, dan kemudian selalu mengajak pada utuhnya NKRI, kepada kebinekaan. Aher mengatakan tidak ada satu negara yang memiliki agama tunggal. “Sebuah negara pasti beragam isinya, tinggal mana mayoritas dan mana yang minoritas. Tinggal yang minoritas nyaman hidup di kalangan mayoritas dan yang mayoritas mengayomi yang minoritas, menghormati yang minoritas,” katanya.
