Kita pun harus ingat bahwa, “Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala akan memberikan kasih sayang-Nya kepada orang yang bermurah hati ketika menagih utang,” (HR. Bukhari).
Bahkan, sangat baik kalau kemudian mengikhlaskanya dan menyedekahkannya. Karena menyedekahkan utang terhadap orang yang menemui kesulitan atau kesukaran mengembalikannya, itu lebih baik. Sebagaimana Allah berfirman,
“Dan menyedekahkan (sebagian atau semua utang) itu, lebih baik bagimu, jika kamu mengetahui,” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 280).
Jika diperlukan, Anda juga boleh menagih dengan agak “keras”. Sebagaimana hadis dari Abu Hurairah, “Seseorang menagih utang kepada Rasulullah, sampai dia mengucapkan kata-kata pedas.
Maka para sahabat hendak memukulnya, maka Nabi berkata, ‘Biarkan dia. Sesungguhnya si empunya hak, berhak berucap. Belikan untuknya unta, kemudian serahkan kepadanya.’
Mereka (para sahabat) berkata, ‘Kami tidak mendapatkan, kecuali yang lebih bagus dan untanya.’ Nabi bersabda, ‘Belikan untuknya, kemudian berikan kepadanya.’ Sesungguhnya sebaik-baik kalian ialah yang paling baik dalam pelunasan utang,” (HR. Bukhari).
Jadi, jangan sampai Anda membiarkan orang lain lalai dalam membayar utangnya. Ingatkan dia terhadap utangnya dengan menagihnya. Jika orang yang berutang belum atau tidak mampu membayar utang, maka alangkah lebih baik bagi Anda untuk melunasinya.
Tapi, jika orang yang berutang itu mampu namun enggan membayar utang, maka Anda bisa menagihnya dengan agak keras, semata-mata agar ia mau memenuhi kewajibannya.
