Fatimah tak kuasa menahan kesedihannya.  Tangisnya pun pecah. Ia akan ditinggalkan ayah yang dicintainya. Ayah yang juga mencintainya. Ayah yang istimewa. Rasulullah yang mulia.
Izrail pun masuk ke dalam rumah, disusul oleh Jibril. Jibril mengabarkan, para malaikat telah bersiap menyambutnya. Pintu–pintu surge, semuanya telah terbuka lebar.”
Namun, Rasulullah masih terlihat cemas.
“Bagaimana dengan nasib ummatku?” tanyanya.
“Jangan khawatir wahai Rasulullah, aku pernah mendengar Allah berfirman kepadaku, “Kuharamkan surga bagi siapa saja, kecuali umat Muhammad telah berada di dalamnya.” tutur Jibril.
Izrail bersiap mencabut ruh Rasulullah. Rasulullah merasa kesakitan. Padahal, Izrail sudah melembutkan caranya dalam mencabut ruh Rasulullah yang mulia.
Jibril memalingkan wajahnya. Ia tak kuasa melihat Rasulullah merasakan sakitnya sakaratul maut. Di tengah sakit yang tak tertahankan itu,
“Ya Allah, dahsyat nian maut ini. Timpakan saja semua siksa maut ini kepadaku. Jangan kepada ummatku”
Ketika sakaratul mautnya, Rasulullah masih memperlihatkan rasa cinta kepada ummatnya. Hingga rela apabila semua siksa maut yang harus dirasakan ummatnya ditimpakan kepada beliau.
Tubuh suci itu mulai dingin dan tidak bergerak lagi. Ali mencoba mendekatkan telinganya ke bibir Rasulullah. Terdengar lirih, beliau berkata,”Peliharalah shalat dan peliharalah orang– rang yang lemah di antaramu.”
“Ummati…ummati..ummati.”
Tak lama kemudian, wafatlah Rasulullah. Penghulu para Nabi dan Rasul. Rasul yang sangat mencintai ummatnya.
