Ia adalah Abu Hanzalah bin Ar Rabie. Ia merupakan sahabat nabi yang kuat dan memiliki pribadi santun serta bertanggung jawab atas segala tugas yang diberikan kepadanya. Atas hasutan ini akhirnya terjadilah perang uhud. Dalam perang tersebut, kaum Quraisy dipimpin oleh Khalid bin Walid yang memiliki peran vital dalam peperangan tersebut. Pertempuran tersebut pun didukung penuh oleh ayah Hanzhalah.

Ketika genderang perang dibunyikan yang menandakan dimulainya peperangan, Hanzalah yang mendengar bunyi tersebut lantas berdiri dan menuju medan perang. Ia tahu bahwa Rasulullah mengizinkannya untuk tidak ikut perang namun ia bertekad untuk jihad.

Saat dalam peperangan Hanzalah berhadapan dengan Abu sofyan terjadi pertarungan yang sangat sengit. Pedang dari Abu Hanzalah bin Ar Rabie berhasil menebas salah satu kaki kuda milik Abu Sofyan dan membuatnya terjatuh. Kemudian, datanglah Syaddad bin Al Aswad untuk membantu Abu Sofyan.

Salah satu dari kedua kaum Quraisy tersebut membunuh Hanzalah dengan lemparan lembing. Setelah itu, Abu Sofyan berseru dengan suara yang sangat lantang, mengabarkan bahwa Hanzalah telah tewas dan ia berhasil membalaskan dendam anaknya yang terbunuh saat perang Badar.

Semua orang bersedih saat kabar syahidnya Hanzalah terdengar. Rasulullah pun terheran dan menyampaikan kepada sahabat lainya bahwa Hanzalah telah dimandikan oleh para malaikat. Ketika mendengar Rasulullah berkata demikian sahabat pun tercengang.

Salah satu sahabat yakni Abu Said Saidi, melihat mayat Hanzalah untuk membuktikan perkataan Rasulullah. Betapa kagetnya ia ketika melihat wajah Hanzalah bercahaya dan tersenyum. Dari rambutnya terlihat tetesan air. Rasulullah juga mengatakan Hanzalah tidak dihisab, ia akan dapat langsung mencium tanah surga.

Sahabat pun langsung menemui Jamilah binti Ubai bin Salul, istri Hanzalah. Ia menceritakan bahwa Hanzalah bergegas ikut jihad saat mendengar gendang perang padahal ia sedang junub. Saat Hanzalah gugur, Allah dengan kuasa-Nya memerintahkan para malaikat untuk memandikan Hanzalah dari langit.
