TANYA: Di mana kita sebaiknya membayar zakat fitrah? Apakah bagusnya dibayarkan di tempat kerja, tempat tinggal (sekitar rumah), di kampung halaman, atau di mana?
 

JAWAB: Tidak ada nash atau dalil yang menyebutkan zakat fitrah harus dibayar di mana. Tidak ada juga dalil yang mengharuskan setiap Muslim zakat fitrah di tempat tinggal sekarang, di kampung, atau negara asal.

Pembayaran zakat fitrah dapat dilakukan di mana saja, selama dilakukan dengan tata cara yang benar serta disalurkan kepada orang yang benar-benar berhak untuk menerimanya (fakir-miskin).


Zakat Fitrah merupakan kewajiban yang harus dipenuhi oleh setiap ummat Islam yang lahir di dunia secara perseorangan, mulai dari bayi yang baru lahir hingga orang yang sudah tua renta yang dilaksanakan menjelang Iedul Fitri di bulan Ramadan.

Hadits-hadits tentang Zakat Fitrah hanya menegaskan keharusan bayar zakat fitrah, besaran (jumlah), dan waktunya.

"Rasulullah Saw mewajibkan zakat fitrah satu sha' kurma atau gandum pada budak, orang merdeka, lelaki perempuan, anak kecil dan orang dewasa dari ummat Islam dan memerintahkan untuk membayarnya sebelum mereka keluar untuk salat Ied." (HR Mutafaqun alaih).

Rasulullah Saw memerintahkan agar zakat fitrah diberikan sebelum manusia berangkat untuk salat Ied. (HR Muslim).

Namun demikian, sebagian ulama menganjurkan zakat fitrah ditunaikan di tempat mereka tinggal, kecuali jika penduduk daerah zakat itu tidak memerlukannya (tidak ada mustahik/tidak ada fakir-miskin).

Menurut Prof. Dr. Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, hendaknya zakat diberikan di tempat mereka tinggal. Hal itu berdasarkan hadits: ”Ambillah zakat dari orang-orang kaya mereka dan berikanlah kepada orang-orang fakir di antara mereka”. (HR. Bukhori)

Kalau ada seorang yang mencari rezekinya di negeri orang, sebaiknya menunaikan zakat di tempat mereka bekerja.

Mazhab hanafi, Syafii, Maliki dan Hanbali menjelaskan zakat harus dibagikan di tempat harta kekayaan diambil.
Berdasarkan Fatwa Simposim Yayasan Zakat Internasional II Tentang Zakat Kontemporer di Kuwait  tahun 1989, pada dasarnya penyaluran zakat dilakukan kepada mustahik di tempat pemungutannya sendiri, kemudian baru ditransfer ke luar daerah pemungutan bila masih terdapat kelebihan, kecuali dalam masa-masa paceklik dan bencana yang dapat ditransfer sesuai urutan prioritas yang paling membutuhkan.
