Ikhlas artinya tanpa pamrih atau tanpa mengharapkan apa pun kepada selain Allah SWT. Mengerjakan sesuatu hanya mengharapkan ridho Allah SWT, tidak mengharapkan apa pun selainnya dan kepada selain-Nya, itulah ikhlas.

Ikhlas merupakan salah satu syarat diterimanya amal ibadah oleh Allah SWT, selain ilmu dan sesuai dengan sunah Rasulullah Saw.

Ikhlas: Amalan Hati

Ikhlas adalah amalan hati ('amaliyah qolbiyah). Orang yang ikhlas semata-mata mengharapkan keridhoan Allah SWT, tidak berharap pujian atau penghargaan dari manusia, bahkan amal ibadahnya ia sembunyikan agar tidak diketahui manusia.

“Allah tidak menerima amal kecuali apabila dilaksanakan dengan ikhlas untuk mencari ridha Allah semata.” (HR Abu Daud dan Nasa’i).

"Katakanlah: Sesungguhnya shalatku, ibadatku, hidupku dan matiku hanyalah untuk Allah, Tuhan semesta alam.” (QS Al-An’am:162).

“Padahal mereka tidak disuruh kecuali supaya menyembah Allah dengan memurnikan ketaatan (ikhlas) kepada-Nya dalam (menjalankan) agama dengan lurus.” (QS. Al-Bayinah: 5).

“Sesungguhnya setiap amalan harus disertai dengan niat. Setiap orang hanya akan mendapatkan balasan tergantung pada niatnya. Barangsiapa yang hijrah karena cinta kepada Allah dan Rasul-Nya maka hijrahnya akan sampai kepada Allah dan Rasul-Nya. Barangsiapa yang hijrahnya karena menginginkan perkara dunia atau karena wanita yang ingin dinikahinya, maka hijrahnya (hanya) mendapatkan apa yang dia inginkan.” (HR. Bukhari dan Muslim).

Mereka yang ikhlas beramal, seperti sedekah dan dzikir tanpa ada keinginan dilihat atau dipuji manusia, termasuk kelompok yang dilindungi Allah SWT di akhirat.

"Tujuh golongan yang akan dinaungi oleh Allah di bawah naungannya pada hari ketika tidak ada naungan kecuali naungan Allah. (1) Imam yang adil, (2) pemuda yang tumbuh dalam beribadah kepada Allah, (3) seorang pria yang hatinya terikat dengan masjid-masjid, (4) dua orang pria yang saling mencintai karena Allah, mereka berdua berkumpul karena Allah dan berpisah karena Allah, (5) seseorang yang diajak untuk berzina oleh seorang wanita yang berkedudukan dan cantik namun ia berkata "Sesungguhnya aku takut kepada Allah", (6) seseorang yang bersedekah lalu ia sembunyikan hingga tangan kirinya tidak tahu apa yang disedekahkan oleh tangan kanannya, dan (7) seseorang yang berdzikir mengingat Allah tatkala bersendirian maka kedua matanya pun meneteskan air mata" (HR. Muslim).
