MENGUAP
"Menguap adalah dari setan. Karena itu, apabila salah seorang dari kalian menguap, tutuplah serapat mungkin karena ketika salah seorang dari kalian berkata ‘huah’ (pada saat menguap), setan akan menertawakannya." (HR. Bukhari).

"Sesungguhnya Allah menyukai bersin dan membenci menguap. Jika seseorang bersin dan mengucapkan alhamdulillah, maka bagi semua muslim yang mendengar hendaknya mengucapkan tasymit (ucapan yarhamukallah). Adapun menguap berasal dari syaitan. Oleh karena itu hendaklah dilawan semampunya dan jika ia katakan, 'aah', maka syaitan pun tertawa." (HR. Bukhari)

Diriwayatkan dari Abu Sa'id al-Khudri r.a, ia berkata, "Rasulullah saw. pernah bersabda, 'Jika salah seorang dari kalian menguap, maka hendaklah ia menahan mulutnya dengan tangannya, sebab syaitan akan masuk." (HR Muslim).

Etika Menguap
Dalam Ensiklopedi Adab Islam terbitan Pustaka Imam Asy-Syafi’i disebutkan, berdasarkan hadits-hadits di atas, maka etika atau adab seorang Muslim dalam menguap adalah sebagai berikut:

1. Meletakkan tangan di mulut agar mulut tidak terbuka. Saat manusia menguap dengan mulut terbuka itu, ia terlihat buruk dan saat itu juga setan sedang menertawakannya.

2. Tidak mengeluarkan suara ‘aaah ’ atau "huwaaah". yang akan menimbulkan tertawaan setan.

3. Tidak mengangkat suara.Terkadang sebagaian orang jahil mengangkat suaranya ketika meng uap dengan maksud ingin membuat sekelilingnya tertawa. Tentunya setan juga menertawakannya.

BERSIN
 “Sesungguhnya Allah menyukai bersin dan membenci menguap. Karenanya apabila salah seorang dari kalian bersin lalu dia memuji Allah, maka kewajiban atas setiap muslim yang mendengarnya untuk mentasymitnya (mengucapkan yarhamukallah). Adapun menguap, maka dia tidaklah datang kecuali dari setan. Karenanya hendaklah menahan menguap semampunya. Jika dia sampai mengucapkan ‘haaah’, maka setan akan menertawainya.” (HR. Bukhari dan Muslim).

Dari Abu Hurairah radhiallahu ‘anhu, dari Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam,  beliau bersabda, “Ababila salah seorang dari kalian bersin, hendaknya dia mengucapkan, “alhamdulillah” sedangkan saudaranya atau temannya hendaklah mengucapkan, “yarhamukallah (Semoga Allah merahmatimu). Jika saudaranya berkata ‘yarhamukallah’ maka hendaknya dia berkata, “yahdikumullah wa yushlih baalakum (Semoga Allah memberimu petunjuk dan memperbaiki hatimu).” (HR. Bukhari dan Muslim).

“Bila salah seorang dari kalian bersin lalu memuji Allah maka tasymitlah dia. Tapi bila dia tidak memuji Allah, maka jangan kamu tasymit dia.” (HR. Muslim). Tasymit adalah mengucapkan ‘yarhamukallah’.


 “Apabila Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersin, beliau menutup wajahnya dengan tangan atau kainnya sambil merendahkan suaranya.” (HR. Abu Daud dan Tirmizi).*
