BEKERJA mencari nafkah bagi diri dan keluarga, dalam Islam dinilai sebagai ibadah. Rasulullah Saw menyebutnya "fi sabilillah", di jalan Allah. Dengan demikian, jika seorang Muslim yang bekerja, maka ia berada di jalan-Nya.

Diriwayatkan, beberapa orang sahabat melihat seorang pemuda kuat yang rajin bekerja. Mereka pun berkata mengomentari pemuda tersebut, “Andai saja ini (rajin dan giat) dilakukan untuk jihad di jalan Allah.”

Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam segera menyela mereka dengan sabdanya, “Janganlan kamu berkata seperti itu. Jika ia bekerja untuk menafkahi anak-anaknya yang masih kecil, maka ia berada di jalan Allah. Jika ia bekerja untuk menafkahi kedua orang-tuanya yang sudah tua, maka ia di jalan Allah. Dan jika ia bekerja untuk memenuhi kebutuhan dirinya, maka ia pun di jalan Allah. Namun jika ia bekerja dalam rangka riya atau berbangga diri, maka ia di jalan setan.” (HR. Thabrani).

“Dialah yang menjadikan bumi itu mudah bagi kamu, Maka berjalanlah di segala penjurunya dan makanlah sebahagian dari rezki-Nya. dan hanya kepada-Nya-lah kamu (kembali setelah) dibangkitkan.” (QS. Al Mukl [67]: 15)

Ibnu Katsir menyebutkan dalam tafsirnya, “Diriwayat-kan dari sebagian salaf bahwa ia berkata, “Barangsiapa yang membeli atau menjual sesuatu pada hari jumat setelah shalat, Allah akan memberkahi untuknya 70 kali.”

Nabi Saw bersabda, “Tidaklah seseorang memakan makanan yang lebih baik dari makanan yang dihasilkan dari pekerjaan tangannya sendiri.” (HR Bukhari).

Agar Bekerja Bernilai Ibadah
Agar bekerja dinilai ibadah oleh Allah, Islam memberikan panduannya sebagai berikut.

Pertama, pekerjaan yang dijalani harus halal dan baik. Allah berfirman,
“Hai orang-orang yang beriman, makanlah di antara rezki yang baik-baik yang Kami berikan kepadamu dan bersyukurlah kepada Allah, jika benar-benar kepada-Nya kamu menyembah.” (QS. Al Baqarah [2]: 172).

Kedua, bekerja dengan profesional dan penuh tanggungjawab. Islam tidak memerintahkan umatnya untuk sekedar bekerja, akan tetapi mendorong umatnya agar senantiasa bekerja dengan baik dan bertanggungjawab.

“Sesungguhnya Allah mencintai seorang diantara ka-lian yang jika bekerja, maka ia bekerja dengan baik.” (HR Baihaqi)

"Sesungguhnya Allah mewajib-kan perbuatan ihsan atas segala sesuatu.” (HR Muslim).

Ketiga, ikhlas dalam bekerja, yaitu meniatkan aktifitas bekerjanya tersebut untuk mencari ridho Allah dan beribadah kepada-Nya.

“Sesungguhnya amal-amal perbuatan itu tergantung niat. Dan setiap orang akan mendapatkan balasan sesuai dengan apa yang diniatkannya.” (HR Bukhari Muslim).
