“Dan sesungguhnya engkau (Muhammad) adalah benar-benar berbudi pekerti yang agung” (QS. 68:4).

Kasih sayang menimbulkan sikap lemah-lembut, termasuk dalam berdakwah atau 'amar ma'ruf nahyi munkar. Berkat sikap penuh kasih dan kelembutan ini pula, Rasulullah Saw berhasil dalam mengemban risalah Islam.

“Maka disebabkan rahmat dari Allahlah kamu berlaku lemah-lembut terhadap mereka. Sekiranya kamu bersikap keras lagi berhati kasar, tentulah mereka menjauhkan diri dari sekelilingmu.” (QS. Ali Imran: 159).

Umat Islam wajib meneladani kasih sayang, kelemahlembutan, dan semua perilaku agung Rasulullah Saw.

“Sesungguhnya telah ada pada (diri) Rasulullah itu suri teladan yang baik bagimu (yaitu) bagi orang yang mengharap (rahmat) Allah dan (kedatangan) hari kiamat dan Dia banyak menyebut Allah.” (QS Al-Ahzab:21).

Umat Islam wajib berkasih sayang terhadap sesama Muslim. Sikap keras hanya berlaku dalam peperangan dan penegakkan hukum, termasuk menghadapi kaum kafir yang memerangi umat Islam.

“Dan orang-orang yang bersama dengan dia (Muhammad) adalah keras terhadap orang-orang kafir tetapi berkasih sayang dengan sesama mereka” (Q.S. Al-Fath:29).

Banyak ayat Al-Quran dan hadits yang menggambarkan kasih sayang sesama Muslim.

“Sesungguhnya orang-orang mukmin itu bersaudara...” (Q.S. Al-Hujurat:10).

"Sesama orang mukmin itu bagaikan satu bangunan (kal bunyan) yang saling meguatkan" (H.R. Bukhari).

“Tidak beriman seorang di antaramu sehingga ia mencintai saudaranya sebagaimana ia mencintai dirinya sendiri” (HR. Bukhari dan Muslim).

"Perumpamaan orang-orang mukmin dalam kasih-mengasihinya, sayang-menyayanginya, dan santun-menyantuninya, bagaikan satu tubuh (kal jasadil wahid) yang jika satu anggotanya menderita sakit maka menderita pula keseluruhan tubuh..." (H.R. Muslim).

Maka, tidak sepatutnya sesama Muslim saling bermusuhan, saling membenci, saling mendengki, saling menjatuhkan, dan sejenisnya. Sebaliknya, sesama Muslim harus saling menguatkan, mempererat persaudaraan, berkasih sayang, dan bersatu-padu dalam menjalankan risalah Islam dan mendakwahkannya.
