Hasad adalah sikap tidak senang melihat orang lain mendapatkan nikmat atau kesenangan. Istilahnya, iri itu sedih melihat orang lain senang dan senang melihat orang lain sedih. Hasad juga berarti menginginkan hilangnya nikmat dari orang lain supaya berpindah kepadanya.

Susah jika orang lain senang, senang jika orang lain susah
Asal sekadar tidak suka atau benci orang lain mendapatkan nikmat, itu sudah dinamakan hasad. “Hasad adalah sekadar benci dan tidak suka terhadap kebaikan yang ada pada orang lain yang ia lihat.” (Ibnu Taimiyah).
Menurut Imam Al-Ghazali dalam kitabnya, Ihya 'Ulumuddin, hasad ialah membenci nikmat Allah SWT yang ada pada diri orang lain, serta menyukai hilangnya nikmat tersebut.
Hasad adalah sifat iblis. Ia merupakan dosa yang pertama dilakukan iblis yang enggan menghormati Nabi Adam.

Orang hasad tidak akan pernah tenang, selalu resah melihat orang lain yang lebih darinya.
Hasad merusak amal saleh, melenyapkan kebaikan, sekaligus memunculkan keburukan seperti merusak persahabatan dan ukhuwah.
“Jauhilah oleh kamu sekalian sikap hasad (dengki), karena sesungguhnya sikap hasad itu memakan (menghabiskan) kebaikan-kebaikan sebagaimana api memakan (menghabiskan) kayu bakar“. (HR. Abu Daud dan Ibnu Majah dari Abu Hurairah).

“Janganlah kamu sekalian saling iri, saling membenci, saling memata-matai, saling membukakan ‘aib, saling tipu, dan saling menjatuhkan, tapi jadilah kamu sekalian hamba Allah yang bersaudara“. (HR. Muslim dari Abu Hurairah).

Hasad yang Dibolehkan
Ada hasad yang dibolehkna, disebut ghibtah, yaitu iri dengan amal kebaikan yang dilakukan orang lain sehingga mendorongnya melakukan kebaikan yang sama, misalnya dalam hal membaca Al-Quran dan gemar bersedekah.

“Tidak boleh hasad kecuali dalam dua hal, yaitu (hasad kepada) orang-orang yang diberi kemampuan (membaca) al-Quran oleh Allah, lalu dia menegakkan (melaksanakan membaca) al-Quran baik diwaktu siang ataupun malam dan (hasad kepada) orang-orang yang diberi harta oleh Allah lalu dia infakkan baik diwaktu malam ataupun diwaktu siang“. (HR Muslim).

Dari ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud r.a., ia berkata, Rasulullah Saw bersabda: “Tidak boleh hasad kecuali pada dua orang, yaitu orang yang Allah anugerahkan padanya harta lalu ia infakkan pada jalan kebaikan dan orang yang Allah beri karunia ilmu, ia menunaikan dan mengajarkannya.” Wallahu a’lam bish-shawabi.*
