17 Pantangan Lisan
Setidaknya, ada 17 hadits Nabi Saw yang memberi kita bimbingan agar menjaga lisan atau ucapan, sebagaimana dikemukakan Dr. Muhammad Faiz Almath dalam 1100 Hadits Terpilih (Gema Insani Press):

1. Barangsiapa beriman kepada Allah dan hari akhir hendaklah berbicara yang baik-baik atau diam. (HR. Bukhari)

2. Siapa yang memberi jaminan kepadaku untuk memelihara di antara rahangnya (mulut) dan di antara kedua pahanya (kemaluan) niscaya aku menjamin baginya surga. (HR. Bukhari)

3. Barangsiapa akhir ucapannya “Laa ilaaha illallah” ‘Tiada Tuhan selain Allah’ niscaya dia masuk surga.( HR. Abu Dawud)

7. Sesungguhnya Allah melarang kamu banyak omong, yang diomongkan, dan menyia-nyiakan harta serta banyak bertanya. (HR. Asysyihaab)

8. Apabila ada orang yang mencaci-maki kamu tentang apa yang dia ketahui pada dirimu, janganlah kamu mencaci-maki dia tentang apa yang kamu ketahui pada dirinya karena pahalanya untuk kamu dan kecelakaan untuk dia. (HR. Ad-Dailami)

9. Barangsiapa banyak bicara maka banyak pula salahnya dan barangsiapa banyak salah maka banyak pula dosanya, dan barangsiapa banyak dosanya maka api neraka lebih utama baginya. (HR. Ath-Thabrani)

10. Kebanyakan dosa anak Adam karena lidahnya. (HR. Ath-Thabrani dan Al-Baihaqi)

11. Berhati-hatilah dalam memuji (menyanjung-nyanjung), sesungguhnya itu adalah penyembelihan. (HR. Bukhari)

12. Seorang memuji-muji kawannya di hadapan Nabi Saw, lalu beliau berkata kepadanya, “Waspadalah kamu, sesungguhnya kamu telah memenggal lehernya, sesungguhnya kamu telah memenggal lehernya (diucapkan berulang-ulang)”. (HR. Ahmad)

13. Taburkanlah pasir ke wajah orang-orang yang suka memuji dan menyanjung-nyanjung.(HR. Muslim)

14. Tahukah kamu apa ghibah itu? Para sahabat menjawab, “Allah dan rasulNya lebih mengetahui.” Beliau bersabda, “Menyebut-nyebut sesuatu tentang saudaramu hal-hal yang dia tidak sukai.”(HR. Muslim)
