Hikmah hijrah adalah pelajaran dan inspirasi yang bisa diambil dari peristiwa hijrah Nabi Saw dari Mekkah ke Madinah yang dijadikan sebagai awal kalender Islam --sehingga disebut kalender Hijriyah.

HIJRAH dalam pengertian awal adalah pindah dari satu tempat ke tempat lain, sebagaimana dilakukan umat Islam atau kaum Muslim Mekkah bersama Nabi Saw yang pindah dari Mekkah ke Madinah.

Dalam pengertian yang luas, hijrah adalah berubah, yakni mengubah ke arah yang lebih baik. Makna hijrah juga ditegaskan Rasulullah Saw dengan sabdanya:

"Orang yang berhijrah itu adalah orang yang meninggalkan apa-apa yang dilarang Allah”. (HR. Bukhari dan Muslim).

Artinya, hikmah hijrah masa kini adalah berubah menjadi lebih baik dengan meninggalkan larangan Allah dan menjalankan perintah-Nya.

Hikmah Hijrah lainnya adalah menumbuhkan semangat wirausaha dan anti-ketergantungan kepada orang lain, sebagaimana kisah sahabat Rasul berikut ini:

"Saudaraku, aku adalah penduduk Madinah yang kaya raya". Kalimat itu diucapkan seorang sahabat Rasulullah, Sa'ad bin Rabi, kepada sahabat lainnya, Abdurrahman bin 'Auf. Sa'ad tak bermaksud pamer dan sombong, tapi hendak meyakinkan Abdurrahman agar mau menerima tawarannya.

"Silakan pilih separuh hartaku dan ambillah," tegas Sa'ad. Tidak hanya itu, Sa'ad menambah penawarannya. "Aku pun mempunyai dua orang istri, coba perhatikan yang lebih menarik perhatian Anda, akan kuceraikan ia hingga Anda dapat memperistrinya." Abdurrahman menolak halus tawaran tulus nan menggiurkan itu. Malah ia minta ditunjukkan letak pasar. Ia menolak ikan, tapi mau kail agar bisa memancing sendiri.

"Semoga Allah memberkati Anda, istri, dan harta Anda. Tunjukkanlah letak pasar agar aku dapat berniaga." jawabnya. Rekaman peristiwa dan dialog antara Sa'ad dan Abdurrahman itu, sebagaimana diriwayatkan Anas bin Malik, terjadi saat Rasulullah SAW mempersaudarakan kaum Muhajirin dan Anshar di Madinah.

Sa'ad adalah penduduk Madinah, sedangkan Abdurrahman termasuk kaum Muhajirin. Sa'ad bukan satu-satunya kaum Anshar yang menjadi penolong kaum Muhajirin.

Fragmen kisah hijrah yang melibatkan Sa’ad dan Abdurrahman bin ‘Auf itu setidaknya mengajarkan dua hal: keindahan ukhuwah Islamiyah dan semangat wirausaha!

Semangat ukhuwah menumbuhkan kasih sayang dan semangat saling menolong dalam kebaikan dan takwa. Setiap Muslim memang bersaudara. Innamal mu’minuuna ikhwah! Sesungguhnya orang-orang mukmin itu bersaudara (QS.49:10).
