Benarkah Umat Rasulullah Menjadi Umat Terbaik? Ini Penjelasannya


Kenikmatan terbesar umat muslim adalah menjadi muslim itu sendiri, dan tentu juga bisa hidup mengamalkan syari’at Islam dengan sebaik mungkin melalui Al-Quran dan sunnah Rasulullah Saw.
Nabi Muhammad sebagai utusan Allah adalah sebaik-baiknya manusia yang dikirimkan oleh Allah Swt  kepada seluruh umat manusia untuk membentuk umat demi menggapai kemaslahatan di dunia dan akhirat.
Oleh karena itu, Nabi Muhammad digelari Nabi dan rasul terbaik, hingga umatnya pun mendapat cipratan gelar sebagai umat terbaik.
Gelar umat terbaik yang disematkan kepada umat Islam sudah ditegaskan oleh Allah dalam surat al baqarah ayat 143 dengan sebutanأمّةً وسطاً  (ummatan wasatha).
Juga surat ali Imran ayat 110 dengan sebutan  خيرَ أمّة (khaira ummah) yang diberi nikmat sempurna berupa Islam. Makna wasath pada dasarnya berarti pilihan dan keseimbangan.
Bisa disimpulkan, umat Islam adalah umat pilihan yang menjalani kehidupannya dengan penuh keseimbangan dan tidak berlebihan dalam hal apapun.
Adapun sebutan umat terbaik yang ditegaskan dalam Al-Quran, menurut Syekh Abdullah at Talidi, adalah sebutan yang mulanya ditujukan untuk generasi para sahabat Rasulullah.
Meskipun begitu, beliau menambahkan bahwa siapapun yang menjalani hidupnya dengan iman yang benar dan juga selalu menyeru kebaikan dan mencegah kemungkaran, maka layak disebut umat terbaik.
Tentu, seruan kebaikan dan larangan kemungkaran itu harus dilakukan dengan cara baik pula. Adapun, golongan orang yang berlebih-lebihan dan tidak konsisten dalam menyeru kebaikan dan mencegah kemungkaran.
Maka status sebagai ‘umat terbaik’ yang melekat pada mereka kurang sempurna, meskipun mereka tidak keluar dari keberkahan beragama Islam dan anugerah iman.
Disebutkan dalam hadits, “sesungguhnya kalian adalah umat ke-70 yang menyempurnakan umat sebelumnya, dan kalian adalah yang terbaik dan paling mulya di sisi Allah” (HR. Ahmad).
Dalam tafsir al-Bahr al-Majid Ibnu Ajibah menafsiri ummatan wasatha dengan menyebutkan bahwa Allah menjadi kita umat muslim sebagai “Umat yang paling utama, umat pilihan yang penuh keseimbangan yang mensucikan dirinya dengan ilmu dan amal yang diperuntukkan untuk kemaslahatan orang lain”.
Dengan kata lain, umat Islam menjadi umat terbaik di antara umat-umat lainnya disebabkan oleh semangat akan menimba ilmu dan penerapannya di tengah-tengah masyarakat.
Seseorang akan dinilai ilmunya bermanfaat atau tidak, dengan sejauh mana peranannya dan implemetasi atas ilmunya di tengah-tengah masyarakat guna memberi kemaslahatan.
Sebagaimana Allah Swt telah mengatakan bahwa bumi dan isinya diwariskan kepada orang-orang yang membuat kemaslahatan.
Sedangkan mengenai tafsir kuntum khaira ummah, ibnu ajibah menyebutkan bahwa umat Nabi Muhammad adalah umat yang paling pertama masuk surga di antara yang lainnya karena keimanan yang mereka miliki sebagai hasil dari menyeru kebaikan dan mencegah kemungkaran.
Oleh karena itu, sebagai umat yang diberi keistimewaan oleh Allah Swt, kita harus senantiasa memperbaiki diri dengan ilmu dan amal agar termasuk umat Allah Swt yang benar-benar terbaik sesuai kriteria Al-Quran dan sunnah Rasulullah.
Memperbaiki diri dengan ilmu dan amal bisa dilakukan dengan cara memperdalam ilmu agama, juga ilmu-ilmu lainnya yang menopang kehidupan manusia, serta senantiasa berusaha untuk mengabdi kepada masyarakat sekitar.
Karena julukan sebagai umat terbaik, selain sebagai pujian, ia adalah sebagai tantangan dan ujian bagi kita. Tidak ada cara lain menjadi yang terbaik tanpa melakukan sesuatu yang terbaik pula.
Semoga kita benar-benar diakui oleh Allah sebagai umat Nabi Muhammad yang sebenar-benarnya mengikuti ajaran rasulullah yang menjadi teladan terbaik. Amin.
