Lahir Prematur dengan Otak Terlihat dari Balik Kulit, Begini Kondisi Si Bayi di Hari Ulang Tahun Pertamanya

Seorang ibu bernama Cheri Price (22) menceritakan kisah kelahiran putrinya, Hailie Dillon pada tahun lalu.

Menurut Cheri, dia melakukan persalinan pada usia kehamilan 23 minggu dan enam hari pada 23 Februari di Rumah Sakit James Cook, Middlesbrough, tahun lalu.

Alhasil, bayi Hailie lahir prematur.

Saat lahir, Hailie hanya memiliki berat 1 kg 2 ons dan sempat tidak bernapas selama tujuh menit. 

Bahkan otak Hailie terlihat hanya melalui kulitnya.

"Ketika Hailie lahir, kedengarannya tidak enak untuk mengatakannya, tapi dia tampak seperti alien merah,” kata wanita asal Isle of Wight ini kepada metro.co.uk.

"Dia masih di tahap janin dan dia sama sekali tidak terlihat seperti bayi."

“Tapi kami tidak percaya dia bisa bertahan.”

Cheri menambahkan bahwa sejak lahir Hailie selalu dimasukkan ke dalam inkubator sehingga ia tidak bisa menyentuhnya.

“Tapi kami bisa melihat semua pembuluh darah dan otaknya melalui kulitnya yang merah,” ingat Cheri.

Kontraksi Cheri dimulai pada Januari tahun lalu, namun rumah sakit setempat tidak dapat melakukan persalinan untuk bayi prematur.

Akhirnya Cheri dan pacarnya, Timothy Dillon, 32, memutuskan untuk pergi ke rumah sakit yang lebih besar.

"Kami hanya berpikir bahwa kami harus pergi ke rumah sakit yang lebih besar dan tempat yang lebih dekat dengan keluarga sehingga mereka dapat membantu perawatan anak kami.”

Dua hari setelah sampai rumah sakit, Hailie pun lahir.

Cheri ingat bahwa dia, pacarnya, dan keluarganya menghabiskan waktu selama tiga bulan di akomodasi staf di rumah sakit James Cook University di Middlesbrough.

Namun selama itu juga Hailie masih belum membuka matanya.

Menurut dokter, dia merasa buta secara permanen karena retinanya tidak berkembang dengan baik.

Lalu dia didiagnosis dengan stadium tiga ROP (Retinopathy of prematurity) dan harus mengunjungi rumah sakit spesialis di lain.

Mau tidak mau, Hailie yang baru lahir itu diterbangkan ke rumah sakit Princess Anne di Southampton dan kemudian mengunjungi rumah sakit Portsmouth Queen Alexandria untuk menyelamatkan penglihatannya.

Beruntungnya, mata bayi Hailie bisa berfungsi dengan baik.

Pada 19 Juni tahun lalu, Hailie diizinkan pulang.

Kini, setelah satu tahun berlalu, Hailie tumbuh menjadi balita yang menggemaskan. 

Kulitnya tumbuh dengan baik dan tidak berbeda jauh dengan balita pada umumnya.

Sayangnya, Hailie masih harus mengontrol kesehatannya di rumah sakit.

“Mudah-mudahan tahun depan dia sudah tidak perlu sering-sering mengontrol kesehatannya,” tutup Cheri.(*)
