Pemerintah Inggris mengambil langkah tegas terhadap Rusia terkait kasus percobaan pembunuhan eks mata-mata Rusia, Sergei Skripal. Inggris akan menghentikan sementara kontak bilateral dengan Rusia juga membekukan aset-aset milik Pemerintah Rusia.

Dalam pernyataan terbaru di hadapan parlemen Inggris, Perdana Menteri Inggris, Theresa May, menyatakan pemerintahannya tidak akan memutus hubungan diplomatik antara Inggris-Rusia. Namun dia menegaskan hubungan kedua negara tidak bisa tetap sama setelah insiden Skripal. 

"Jadi kita akan menghentikan sementara seluruh kontak bilateral tingkat tinggi antara Inggris dan Federasi Rusia yang telah direncanakan," tegas PM May seperti dilansir media Inggris, The Guardian, Rabu (14/3/2018). Inggris juga mengumumkan pengusiran 23 diplomat Rusia terkait kasus Skripal.

Keputusan penghentian komunikasi ini berlaku untuk rencana kunjungan Menteri Luar Negeri Rusia, Sergey Lavrov, ke Inggris dan kehadiran delegasi Inggris untuk Piala Dunia 2018 di Rusia pada Juni mendatang.

"Ini termasuk mencabut undangan untuk Menteri Luar Negeri Lavrov yang akan melakukan kunjungan balasan ke Inggris," ucap PM May. "Dan mengkonfirmasi tidak akan ada kehadiran Menteri -- atau anggota Keluarga Kerajaan -- di Piala Dunia di Rusia musim panas ini," imbuhnya.

Skripal (66) dan putrinya, Yulia (33), masih kritis di rumah sakit usai ditemukan tak sadarkan diri di Salisbury, Inggris bagian selatan pada 4 Maret lalu. Otoritas Inggris telah menyatakan keduanya diracun dengan gas saraf jenis Novichok. Insiden ini diselidiki sebagai percobaan pembunuhan.

Kepada para anggota parlemen Inggris, PM May juga menyatakan pemerintahannya akan membekukan aset-aset Rusia terkait insiden Skripal. "Kita akan membekukan aset-aset negara Rusia di mana saja kita memiliki bukti bahwa aset itu digunakan untuk mengancam nyawa atau properti warga negara atau residen Inggris," ujarnya.

Ditambahkan PM May bahwa Inggris akan memantau dan melacak tujuan orang-orang mencurigakan dan dianggap melakukan aktivitas mengancam, yang masuk ke Inggris. Tidak hanya itu, Inggris juga akan menggodok aturan legislatif baru yang bertujuan menangkal ancaman dari negara lain. 

"Ini akan termasuk penambahan wewenang terarah untuk menahan orang-orang yang dicurigai terlibat aktivitas jahat di perbatasan Inggris," ucapnya.
