Karena makin terdesak pasukan komando Israel kemudian berusaha dievakuasi menggunakan helikopter  tapi  operasi SAR tempur (Combat SAR) itu tidak berjalan lancar.

Sejumlah jenasah pasukan komando Israel berhasil dikuasi pejuang Hizbullah dan dijadikan sarana tawar-menawar pertukaran jenasah antara kedua belah pihak.

Proses tawar tukar-menukar jenasah itu  ternyata berlangsung selama 10 bulan setelah pihak Israel bersedia menyerahkan 40 jenasah pejuang Hizbullah.

Akibat serangan  militer yang kerap gagal menghancurkan kekuatan Hizbullah, pamor keberadaan pejuang Hizbullah di Libanon Selatan pun makin bersinar.

Milisi SLA (South Lebanon Army)  yang menyadari naik pamornya Hizbullah pelan-pelan mulai menarik diri dari hubungan dekatnya dengan militer Israel, sehingga para pejuang Hizbullah makin leluasa untuk melancarkan serangan ke Israel.

Salah satu serangan spekatkuler Hizbullah yang mengakibatkan seorang jenderal Israel gugur berlangsung pada bulan Februari 1999.

Akibat serangan mematikan itu militer Israel pun ditarik dari zona penyangga keamanan Libanon Selatan.

Setelah penarikan mundur pasukan itu, militer Israel lalu memperkuat penjagaan di perbatasan Libanon-Israel.

Penarikan mundur pasukan Israel dari Libanon Selatan secara politik merupakan kemenangan bagi pejuang Hizbullah dan para pejuang Palestina yang dikenal sebagai kelompok Hamas.

Dengan modal rasa percaya diri atas keberhasilan mengusir militer Isarel yang sudah 18 tahun bercokol di Libanon Selatan, para pejuang Hizbullah dan Hamas Palestina pun menjadi semakin berani untuk menyerang Israel.
