Ibn Umar berkata: “Anak perempuan Umar dinamakan dengan nama ‘Asiah (wanita yang derhaka), lalu dinamakan oleh Rasulullah SAW dengan Jamilah (cantik).”  (riwayat Tirmidzi dan Ibn Majah). 

Disunatkan mengubah nama yang buruk atau yang tidak baik kerana Nabi SAW telah melakukannya kepada para sahabat baginda, di mana Rasulullah SAW pernah menukar nama seorang yang bernama Abdul Hajar (hamba batu) kepada Abdullah. Ada yang bernama ‘Asi (yang durhaka) lalu ditukar menjadi Muti’ (yang taat).


Aishah r.a berkata: “Rasulullah telah menukar nama-nama yang buruk.” (riwayat Tirmidzi).”
