Kubur adalah tempat singgah pertama setelah kematian untuk menuju akhirat. Di Barzah seseorang akan melihat sebagian balasan dari amalnya. Jika selamat di dalamnya maka perjalanan berikutnya akan ebih mudah. Sebaliknya, jika sengsara padanya maka perjalanan berikutnya jauh lebih sulit.

Ada kalanya kubur seseorang terasa gelap karena kurangnya amal-amal baiknya dan sebab maksiat yang telah dikerjakan.

Nabi Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam bersabda tentang kubur seorang wanita berkulit hitam yang bertugas membersihkan masjid, wanita itu meninggal, kemudian beliau menyalatkan wanita itu di atas kuburnya,

إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْقُبُورَ مَمْلُوءَةٌ ظُلْمَةً عَلَى أَهْلِهَا وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُنَوِّرُهَا لَهُمْ بِصَلَاتِي عَلَيْهِمْ

“Sungguh kuburan-kuburan ini penuh dengan kegelapan atas penghuninya dan sungguh Allah‘Azza wa Jalla akan meneranginya untuk mereka dengan shalatku atas mereka.” (HR. Muslim)
Ibnu ‘Alan di Syarh Riyadhus Shalihin menerangkan maknanya, “sesungguhnya kubur penuh kegelapan karena tidak ada jendela yang bisa dimasuki cahaya. Tidak bisa menyinari (menerangi)-nya kecuali amal-amal shalih dan syafa’at yang diterima oleh Allah Ta’ala.”

Kewajiban kita adalah mengusahakan amal-amal shalih yang bisa menghantarkan kepada kebahagiaan di kehidupan dunia, alam barzakh, dan akhirat. Di antaranya, amal-amal yang bisa menjadi sebab diteranginya kubur kita. Bersamaan dengan itu kita jauhi segala maksiat yang menyebabkan gelapnya kubur.

Semua amal shalih –secara umum- menjadi sebab terangnya kubur. Di antara amal utamanya adalah sabar dan shalat. Ini masuk dalam keumuman makna firman Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala,

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلاةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

“Hai orang-orang yang beriman, mintalah pertolongan (kepada Allah) dengan sabar dan (mengerjakan) salat, sesungguhnya Allah beserta orang-orang yang sabar.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 153)

Disebutkan dalam hadits shahih,

وَالصَّلَاةُ نُورٌ وَالصَّدَقَةُ بُرْهَانٌ وَالصَّبْرُ ضِيَاءٌ وَالْقُرْآنُ حُجَّةٌ لَكَ أَوْ عَلَيْكَ

"Shalat adalah cahaya, sedekah merupakan bukti nyata, sabar itu sinar, dan Al-Qur’an adalah pembelamu atau penuntutmu.” (HR. Muslim)

Sebagian ulama –seperti Ibnu Taimiyah- menyebutkan bahwa haji dan umrah bisa menjadi sebab terangnya alam kubur seseorang. Ini seperti disebutkan hadits yang disebutkan Ibnu Katsir, Al-Qurthubi, dan dikomentari Ibnu Taimiyah, “memiliki beberapa dalil-dalil yang menguatkan keshahihannya.”

Ikut serta dalam mengaji Al-Qur'an dan belajar ilmu syar’i bisa dijadikan sarana untuk terangnya kubur. Ini tidak lepas dari sifat Al-Qur'an sebagai cahaya, sebagaimana firman Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala,

وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ نُورًا مُّبِينًا

“Dan telah Kami turunkan kepadamu cahaya yang terang benderang (Al Qur'an).” (QS. Al-Nisa’: 174)
Doa shalat jenazah atas mayit juga bisa menjadi sebab diteranginya cahaya kubur seorang muslim. Ini seperti hadits riwayat Muslim, Rasulullah Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam pernah mendoakan Abu Salamah saat wafat,

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِأَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمَهْدِيِّينَ وَاخْلُفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَافْسَحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ

“Ya Allah, ampunilah Abu Salamah, angkatlah derajatnya bersama orang-orang yang mendapat petunjuk, berilah penggantinya bagi orang-orang yang ditinggalkan, ampunilah kami dan dia, wahai Rabb seluruh alam. Lapangkanlah kuburannya dan berilah cahaya di dalamnya.”

Terangnya kubur menjadi harapa setiap kita, hendaknya kita berdoa kepada Allah meminta kebaikan ini. Dan juga kita doakan saudara muslim kita agar mendapat cahaya dikuburnya. Wallahu A’lam.
