Ini adalah kisah seorang pemuda yang tengah mengendarai mobil dengan kecepatan yang sangat tinggi. Antara kota Mekah dan Jeddah ia melaluinya dengan kecepatan di atas rata-rata. Lalu ia mengalami kecelakaan yang sangat mengerikan.

Sebelumnya ia sedang menyalakan tape recordernya dengan mendengarkan lagu-lagu Barat seperti yang biasa didengarkan orang-orang. Orang yang melihat ke mobilnya mengatakan bahwa ia telah meninggal.

Seorang yang shaleh turun dari mobilnya ketika sedang lewat di jalan itu. Ketika orang-orang melihat pemuda yang mengalami kecelakaan itu, mereka menemukannya sudah mendekati ajalnya. Mereka berkata: “Ini adalah kesempatan untuk mengingatkannya untuk berdzikir kepada Allah dan membimbingnya untuk mengucapkan kalimat Laa ilaaha illallaah. Mudah-mudahan saja ia dapat melafazhkannya”. Karena barangsiapa yang akhir ucapannya di kehidupan dunia ini adalah laa ilaaha illallaah, maka ia akan masuk surga.

Orang-orang shaleh itu berkata: “Kami senang jika Allah menyelamatkan pemuda ini dari api neraka Jahannam melalui perantara kami. Maka kami pun mendekati pemuda itu dan membimbingnya untuk melafazhkan kalimat tauhid”. Mereka berkata: “Hai saudaraku! Ucapkanlah laa ilaaha illallaah!”.
Namun apa yang diucapkan oleh pemuda itu? Ia mengucapkan sesuatu yang biasa ia ucapkan sebelumnya. Jika seseorang lisannya terbiasa dengan dzikir kepada Allah, pada menjelang ajalnya dia tidak akan mengucapkan kata-kata selain berdzikir kepada Allah. Sedangkan orang yang hatinya terbiasa menuruti kata-kata setan dan hawa nafsunya, terbiasa dengan kenikmatan sesat, melakukan maksiat, membenci, mencela dan mengejek orang-orang shaleh, kata-kata apakah yang kira-kira akan ia ucapkan menjelang kematiannya?

Apakah yang diucapkan oleh pemuda itu?

Ia mengucapkan kata-kata yang merendahkan dirinya di dunia dan akhirat. Ia mengucapkan: “Aku tidak akan pernah melakukan shalat dan tidak akan pernah berpuasa. Sungguh terlaknat agamamu”.
Kalimat-kalimat seperti itulah yang biasa ia ucapkan. Jika beberapa orang shaleh menemuinya dan mengingatkannya untuk melakukan shalat, ia menjawab, “Aku tidak akan pernah shalat dan tidak akan pernah puasa.” Jika mereka menasehatinya, ia justru mencela dan mengejek agama.

Sungguh kita berlindung kepada Allah dari hal seperti itu. Maka lisannya pun terbiasa dengan kalimat-kalimat tadi, maka ketika menjelang akhirnya hayatnya pun ia mengucapkan hal itu. Kita memohon kepada Alah agar diberi kekokohan hati.
