Al-Kautsar adalah nama telaga Rasulullah Saw di Surga. Al-Kautsar juga bermanka nikmat yang banyak dan ada pula pengertian, makna, atau tafsiran Al-Kautsar lainnya.

DALAM Shahih Muslim disebutkan, Anas r.a. berkata, "Suatu saat Rasulullah Saw di sisi kami dan saat itu beliau dalam keadaan tidur ringan (tidak nyenyak). Lantas beliau mengangkat kepala dan tersenyum. Kami pun bertanya, “Mengapa engkau tertawa, wahai Rasulullah?”

Rasulullah Saw menjawab: “Baru saja turun kepadaku suatu surat.” Lalu beliau membaca (QS. Al Kautsar: 1-3): "Sesungguhnya Kami telah memberikan kepadamu nikmat yang banyak.Maka dirikanlah solat kerana Tuhanmu dan berkurbanlah. Sesungguhnya orang yg membercimu itu terputus (dari rahmat Allah)".

Kemudian beliau berkata, “Tahukah kalian apa itu Al Kautsar?” “Allah dan Rasul-Nya yang lebih mengetahui”, jawab kami. Rasulullah Saw bersabda:

“Al Kautsar adalah sungai yang dijanjikan oleh Rabbku ‘azza wa jalla. Sungai tersebut memiliki kebaikan yang banyak. Ia adalah telaga yang nanti akan didatangi oleh umatku pada hari kiamat nanti. Bejana (gelas) di telaga tersebut sejumlah bintang di langit. Namun ada dari sebgaian hamba yang tidak bisa minum dari telaga tersebut. Allah berfirman: Tidakkah engkau tahu bahwa mereka telah berbuat bid’ah sesudahmu.” (HR. Muslim, Abu Daud, Nasa’i).

Ragam Makna Al-Kautsar
Dalam sebuah Hadis lagi yang dirawikan oleh Muslim dan shahihnya, diterimanya dengan sanadnya daripada Anas bin Malik: “Al-Kautsar nama sebuah sungai sebelum menjelang ke syurga, di sanalah ummat Muhammad akan minum bersama Nabi seketika akan meneruskan perjalanan ke dalam Surga.”
  • Ikrimah menafsirkan Al-Kautsar ialah Nubuwwat.
  • Al-Hasan mengatakan: “Al-Qur’an.”
  • Al-Mughirah mengatakan: “Al-Islam.”
  • Husin bin Fadhal mengatakan: “Kemudahan syariat.”
  • Abu Bakar bin ‘Iyyasy dan Yaman bin Ri-ab mengatakan: “Banyak sahabat, banyak ummat, dan banyak pengikut.”
  • Al-Mawardi: “Tersebut namanya di mana-mana.”
  • Dan kata Al-Mawardi juga: “Cahaya bersinar dari dalam hatimu, menunjuk jalan menuju Aku dan memutuskan jalan yang selain Aku.”
  • Ibnu Kisan mentafsirkan: “Kasih-sayangmu kepada orang lain.”
  • Al-Mawardi pula mengatakan: “Al-Kautsar ialah syafa’at yang dianugerahkan kepada engkau untuk melindungi ummatmu di akhirat.”
  • Menurut Ats-Tsa’labi: “Suatu mu’jizat dari Tuhan, sehingga doa ummatmu yang shalih dikabulkan Tuhan jua.”
  • Menurut Hilal bin Yasaf: “Al-Kautsar ialah dua kalimat syahadat: La Ilaha Illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah.”
